QuikTrip announced more than $7 million in grants awarded to local nonprofits to help combat homelessness and make communities across the Atlanta metropolitan area safer, stronger and more stable at a press conference this morning hosted at the United Way of Greater Atlanta.
Atlanta City Council President Doug Shipman, Representative Katie Dempsey (GA-13), and Representative Houston Gaines (GA-120) were joined by representatives from United Way of Greater Atlanta and the Atlanta Police Foundation as they spoke about the impact of QuikTrip’s charitable giving and the need for collaboration between businesses and nonprofit partners.
“Atlanta is no stranger to the idea that the best way to overcome big challenges is through the power of partnership. Working together with our great private sector partners combined with partners from the State and Metro Area, we have made great progress in addressing the biggest challenges of our time. That is the ‘Atlanta way,’” said Atlanta City Council President Doug Shipman.
“I am proud of the work we have done as a State to address these issues head-on and work with our local government to reverse these trends,” said Rep. Katie Dempsey. “That said, we have much more to do. QuikTrip is stepping up to ensure we are all pulling in the same direction to help every Georgian live a healthy, stable, prosperous life in this great state.”
“QuikTrip’s willingness to be a part of solutions to address critical issues is a great example of a community-minded company invested in making a difference,” said Rep. Houston Gaines. “QuikTrip employees are making it clear they are focused on the community’s future by putting significant resources and strategic thinking into how they can strengthen areas most impacted by these issues. I appreciate the dedication and determination of QuikTrip’s employees for engaging in the work of continuing to make Georgia the best place to live, work, run a business, and raise a family.”
A member of the Atlanta community since 1986, QuikTrip has 161 stores and 4,700 employees across the state, primarily concentrated in the metro Atlanta area. Since its founding in 1958, QuikTrip has donated 5% of net profits to the communities it serves. In 2023, QuikTrip began investing above and beyond its historic donations by investing more than $7 million in several organizations throughout the greater Atlanta area. With a focus on supporting public safety, QuikTrip partnered with local law enforcement groups, including the Atlanta Police Foundation and the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office.
“QuikTrip’s commitment to law enforcement around the Metro area profoundly impacts our ability to fund, honor, and assist officers and employees who put their lives on the line to keep us safe,” said Atlanta Police Department Chief Darin Schierbaum. “I thank QuikTrip for their support because it’s more than a contribution; it’s a testament to the power of collaboration, community, and compassion towards making a safer and stronger future for Atlanta.”
“We are fortunate to have a community partner like QuikTrip that supports our officers both on and off the job. We look forward to growing in this partnership in the future,” said Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Jenaro Hare.
QuikTrip also celebrated new partnerships with Atlanta Mission, CHRIS 180, Georgia Works, HOPE Atlanta, and St Vincent de Paul Georgia. Together, these non-profits work to address homelessness, substance abuse disorders, and other key areas impacting Atlanta communities.
“A true partner in ending homelessness, QuikTrip continues to support our goal of humbly serving those who need it most. Their support has helped mothers, children, and families remain strong throughout times of adversity,” said Atlanta Mission President and CEO Tensley Almand.
“St. Vincent de Paul is grateful for QuikTrip’s continued support and commitment to our mission of providing help and hope to our neighbors in need,” said St. Vincent de Paul Georgia Executive Director Mike Mies.“QuikTrip’s previous support of our Motel to Home program was the most significant gift in our organization’s history, helping 900 families achieve stable housing. Their partnership is a gift to all of Georgia.”
“With QuikTrip’s partnership, CHRIS 180 can continue to provide vulnerable children, youth, and young adults with integrated comprehensive services to address past traumas and inequities, interrupt generational cycles of poverty and trauma, build community connections, and inspire hope so they can become successful, resilient adults,” said CHRIS 180 President and CEO Kathy Colbenson, LMFT.
“Their gracious partnership has allowed us to acquire new staff and expand our reach to the most vulnerable in our community,” said HOPE Atlanta CEO Julio Carrillo. “QuikTrip’s support enables our service capabilities to meet the ever-changing needs of our neighbors.”
“Georgia Works is incredibly thankful for QuikTrip and their continued investments in changing the lives of men, transforming them into productive and self-sustaining members of society. QuikTrip takes their commitment to our community with the utmost sincerity and awareness, impacting effective change in our organization and those we serve,” said Georgia Works President and CEO Darlene Schultz.
QuikTrip’s commitment to a safer and more secure community extends throughout the nation. “These `groups` have made an incredible difference in the Atlanta community by providing critical services to those who need them most. In supporting these `groups` and their mission, QuikTrip is proud to contribute to a safer, stronger, and more resilient community for all of Atlanta,” said QuikTrip Community Relations Manager Lauren Sherry. “Community is our customer, and we are committed to being a good neighbor in each community we serve.”
